My Artist's Statement

I want to capture glimpses of people that reveal something immediate and universal about who they are, who they want to be, and how they connect to others and the world around them.

I observe and photograph Japanese people as a non-Japanese person living in Japan. I enjoy the challenge and tension of authentically seeing and portraying people as a cultural outsider. I hope the results will convey something real and true about the subjects, their culture, and our human identity.
